Oxford United decision on star wanted by ‘several’ clubs

Oxford United have a decision to make regarding the long-term future of the Irishman ahead of the next transfer window.

Negru, 21, has recently experienced a decrease in his playing time with the League One team.

The Irish Mirror claims that he is no longer with Kassam Stadium and that other teams are taking notice of him.

Negru was signed by Oxford United in January 2023. Under former manager Liam Manning, who is currently with Bristol City in the Championship, Negru made two appearances during the second half of the previous season.

Despite not playing since February, he has made 19 appearances this season in all competitions, 13 of which have been in the league.

The U’s extended his contract last September after some impressive performances but he has lost his place in the team recently under Des Buckingham.

The League of Ireland team saw him play nine times before he moved to Oxford United.

After winning 2-1 on the road against Exeter City on the last day of the regular season, Buckingham’s team has guaranteed their spot in the playoffs. Against the Grecians, Mark Harris and Cameron Brannagan scored goals.

They now face Peterborough United at the semi-finals stage as they look to book their place at Wembley in the final against either Bolton Wanderers or Barnsley. Blackpool and Lincoln City missed out on the top six last weekend.
