Winger Maika Sivo is allegedly being pursued by the Parramatta Eels to leave the team.

Given this, some people might not be too surprised by the move. Sivo’s status at the club has declined significantly in recent times.

The winger, who has also missed games due to injury and suspension this year, has only participated in four games so far in the 2024 campaign: Rounds 4 and 5, and Round 8.

He was formerly released by the Eels for his bad play, and even though he was summoned back by necessity, a Fox Sports report claims that the team has no desire for him to finish out his contract in blue and gold.

The North Queensland Cowboys, who have a limited pay cap and are looking to improve their own outside backs and add depth to a position where they have struggled, are rumoured to be eager to sign Sivo.

As a result, should Sivo decide to leave the team, the Eels might have to foot the bill for a substantial portion of his salary. The 30-year-old Fijian star is now under contract till the end of 2025 on an annual salary estimated to be approximately $550,000. Sivo’s contract expires at the end of 2025, and he has two years’ worth of mutual options that might keep him in the west of Sydney until at least the end of 2027.

Sivo could openly engage with other clubs starting on November 1st, as it is now doubtful that he will be pursued. If the Eels are really trying to trade him away from the team, though, he might already have their consent.
