Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson wants to see derby day levels of spirit and commitment for the rest of the season.

Posh called his team’s performance in the 1-0 victory against Cambridge United last Saturday “okay,” but he was really pleased with their will and resolve to snap a five-game losing streak.

Posh now face back-to-back home games against lively local rivals Northampton Town on Tuesday (March 5, 7.45pm) and Exeter City on Saturday (3pm).

We had the opportunity to win more easily against Cambridge, and we deserved to win. Ferguson stated. “We didn’t have the best ball play, but we had a really good mental game to make sure that one goal was plenty.
It’s always a little unsettling to watch from the touchline at 1-0, but looking back at the game, we seemed very at ease.

“We will have a chance if we play with the passion and dedication that Cambridge demonstrated and maintain more clean sheets.”

Posh’s next opponents, Northampton in August, fell 1-0 away from home and Exeter 2-1 earlier this month.

Both of them have merits, Ferguson continued. Since Exeter and I haven’t played recently, I doubt they’ll play much differently, and we most definitely won’t. We shouldn’t have lost that game, but we did.

“In Northampton, things were the same. I won’t even consider the Tuesday match until after we’ve played Exeter, but considering the financial and hiring constraints he’s had, I think their manager, Jon Brady, has done an outstanding job.

Exeter’s track record at London Road is poor. Out of 23 Football League games played here, they have only won two, with twelve of the games ending in draws.

Exeter hasn’t defeated Posh since 1988, and their leading scorer, Reece Cole, is out due to suspension after receiving ten bookings. A few weeks ago, he contributed to both of Exeter’s goals against Posh.

Hector Kyprianou is anticipated to start in midfield for Posh against Exeter in place of injured player Jeando Fuchs.
