According to Football Insider, Sheffield Wednesday has entered the competition for Plymouth Argyle player Mickel Miller.
This summer, Sheffield Wednesday will get ready for another Championship campaign.
Last season, Danny Rohl’s team appeared doomed for relegation, but they just managed to escape. The German coach was praised widely for his successful turnaround of the team.
The Owls are determined to finish in the top half of the Championship this summer, and they have already made progress in that regard during the summer transfer window.
Miller, 28, played for the Plymouth Argyle at Home Park during the previous season. The adaptable left-handed player played for the Pilgrims in 34 Championship games the previous campaign.
They also just escaped relegation, barely hanging on for a single point on the last day.
Miller’s contract expires at the end of the month, and it appears he will likely sign a free move elsewhere after negotiations came to a standstill.
The latest team to express interest in Miller was Stoke City. They joined Oxford United, Portsmouth, and Preston North End in the race for him.
Sheffield Wednesday has now entered the picture in an effort to help the Owls close a deal before the tournament.
Right now, Sheffield Wednesday seems to be the team to support. In addition to his ability to draw players who otherwise wouldn’t want to play for a team in danger of relegation, Rohl’s coaching philosophy and football style obviously excite players as well as supporters.
Portsmouth, Oxford United, and Stoke City will all play in the Championship the following year. The Potters struggled in the previous game and finished in the lower half once more.
Both Pompey and the U’s have recently received promotions, so getting Miller for free would have been a wise move as they try to reestablish themselves at this level. That will be more difficult to accomplish now that the Owls are in the picture, so they might have to go for other targets this summer.
This season, Sheffield Wednesday is definitely the team to watch. Under Rohl, they produced some excellent football the previous season, and this summer, they have only improved.
They will still need a few more new players, but the early going is encouraging, and they have a real chance to soar through the standings this season.
Miller is a respectable addition. Although the 28-year-old has only participated in one Championship season, he has experience in Scotland and League One, and he will provide experience to Sheffield Wednesday’s roster the following year.
