Portsmouth will see youngster Brian Quarm depart this summer and The News reports he is now on trial at Millwall.
Portsmouth and Millwall will be Championship rivals next season after Pompey won the League One title and the Lions staved off relegation to League One.

A drop to the third-tier looked like a real prospect for the South London outfit too. However, under the lead of returning club legend Neil Harris, they ended on a high and moved far clear of the bottom three.

There will likely be changes at both clubs this summer, with Pompey gearing up for Championship football while Harris looks to bring some of his own signings in at The Den.

As part of Portsmouth’s summer plans, a number of academy players will be moving on. Youngster Brian Quarm is among them, but it might be that he stays in the second-tier with Millwall.

As reported by The News, the 18-year-old defender is on a two-week trial with the Lions as he weighs up his next move. The former Fulham prospect only played once for the Portsmouth first-team but could be heading back to London with Millwall if he can impress on trial.

The significant number of academy exits at Portsmouth has made for an intriguing talking point ahead of the summer transfer window.

There hasn’t exactly been a regular flow of academy graduates into the first-team at Fratton Park and with a host of youngsters moving on this summer, that marks another large chunk who will take their talents elsewhere.

Quarm is among those moving on, and it could be that he moves up to the Championship regardless.

Fans often rejoice at seeing a homegrown, developed player come through the youth ranks and into the first-team. It’s a good way of supplying the ranks with talented prospects to support more senior members too.

Nonetheless, that hasn’t impacted success at Portsmouth, with their promotion sealed regardless.
