Tino Anjorin has one year left on his Chelsea contract, and after spending the last three years on loan, he has indicated his desire to depart Stamford Bridge.
Tino Anjorin, a Chelsea youth, has stated he would want to return to the ‘unbelievable club’ Portsmouth following a loan spell.
The 22-year-old spent a season on loan with the League One club after signing from Chelsea last summer. Pompey were declared champions and advanced to the Championship.
Anjorin made 14 appearances despite missing five months with a hamstring rupture. He had a promising start at Chesterfield in November before being injured.
He later returned to first-team action in April, appearing in five of Pompey’s final six games, including two starts. Although he wishes he had not been sidelined for so long, Anjorin indicated a desire to return to Fratton Park.
The midfielder told The News, “We just wanted to finish on a high. We were eager to cap off a successful season with a victory. It summed up how determined we had been all year. Even in the final game, nothing mattered, yet we went out there and delivered.
“When I was injured (at Chesterfield), it was a difficult moment for me; I wanted to play for the team and be able to say I had played 40 games. It was not doable. I accepted it in January, and I had to come back and try to just do better; if I could help the team in any way, I would – and feel I played well when I returned.
“Injuries have taught me that it is impossible to foretell the future. I’ll see what happens during the summer. I would definitely like to return; every time I stepped out onto that pitch, I loved it—the scream of the crowd, this group of players, the staff—this is an incredible club.
“I have a year left on my contract; it is out of my control, which is why I believe I know nothing about my future. Football goes so fast that anything can happen.”
In his final Pompey game, he was substituted by Abu Kamara in the 65th minute after limping off the pitch following treatment.
Mauricio Pochettino, meanwhile, will want to take a closer look at some of the Blues’ bright young players this summer as he prepares for the 2024/25 season. Along with Anjorin, several players have returned from loan, notably Alex Matos and Omari Hutchinson.
However, their destiny could be decided this summer, as incomings and outgoings will be critical as part of the significant adjustments required at Stamford Bridge.
