Last summer, Portsmouth signed the attacker to a two-year contract with an option for another year.

Yengi, 25, helped John Mousinho’s side win promotion from League One in his debut year in England.

He wants to stay with the Hampshire club for the long run and has stated, according to The News, “Of course. I adore our club, and this season has been nothing short of spectacular. Everyone has been extremely welcoming, and I believe I still have a lot to learn and improve as a player.

“I’m excited to play in the Championship next season. Championship player sounds appealing, but Premier League would be even better. “We’ll go for it next year!”

Portsmouth landed Yengi last July to bolster their attacking options and he arrived as an unknown quantity from Western Sydney Wanderers.

He has adapted well to life in the Football League and has scored 12 goals in all competitions in this campaign, eight of which have come in the league.

The Australian international, who has six caps to date, will have the opportunity to put his skills to the test in the Championship.

He began his senior career with Adelaide United, where he appeared in 28 A-League games and scored six goals.

Yengi then spent last year with Western Sydney Wanderers, scoring four goals for the New South Wales team before leaving for a fresh start in Portsmouth.

Mousinho’s team officially secured their position in the second tier league on Tuesday, defeating Barnsley 3-2 at home.

They still have two games left this season as Derby County and Bolton Wanderers compete to join them.

Pompey meet mid-table Wigan Athletic this weekend before travelling away to play-off contender Lincoln City on the final day.
