It’s no secret that Gerwyn Price hasn’t been thrilled with Premier League Darts’ weekly schedule in recent years. It is unclear if the Welshman will play in the Premier League in 2025, despite the fact that he recently moved back into the top-4 in the PDC Order of Merit.
After the last week of regular league phase action in Sheffield, Price posted on his official Instagram story, saying, “So happy that is done and dusted.” Price finished the season in a pitiful seventh place with just seven wins to his name. “For me, the Premier League is over.” I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t enjoyed it.”
Wayne Mardle, a former professional darts player who is now an expert for Sky Sports, recently commented on the Gerwyn Price controversy in an interview with Online Darts. “To turn down an invitation to the Premier League is something you have to think about,” Mardle says, evoking empathy from his own experiences in the hardest-charging darts competition. “Gerwyn Price is very reactionary so however he feels in that moment, he’ll post. He’s got a habit of doing it.”
“Don’t forget he’s also pulled out of the Masters, he’s pulled out of other events and he’s even threatened to pull out of the World Championships,” Mardle says. “Not everyone should play in the Premier League. It is a terrible, horrible place to be when you are being beaten. Because he was so good going into the playoffs last year, he was enjoying it; this year, though, he’s not enjoying it because he’s losing. He may choose to accept an invitation if he receives one.”
However, there’s no assurance that Price will receive that invitation at all. I’m not sure if he had a bad back, but if you express distaste and say, ‘I don’t like it,’ and then disappear for a week, that’s unacceptable. However, why should anyone rely on you if you are unreliable?” Hawaii 501 inquiries. “I understand what it’s like because I was taken out. I just feel like there’s been someone missing this year. Are you posting every week and not enjoying it? Is there any chance he won’t get invited? Indeed.
