As a part of the Prescot High Street Heritage Action Zone, a historic building in Prescot has just been brought back to its former splendour.
The ground floor of 7 Market Place, an early Georgian townhouse with two bays and three stories, was turned into a shopfront in the middle to late 19th century. Currently housing Enchanted Circle, a crystal and spiritual shop, as well as Enchanted Circle Tea Rooms, it is a component of the Prescot Town Centre Conservation Area.
Through physical construction and public realm enhancements, as well as cultural initiatives to revitalise and restore the area’s historic character, the High Street Heritage Action Zone initiative is contributing to the revitalization of Prescot town center’s historic core.
Among the specialised restoration tasks completed at 7 Market Place are:
- The reinstatement of a traditional shopfront.
- The reinstatement of traditional sash windows to the front elevation.
- The repair of cast iron rainwater goods to the front elevation.
- Brickwork repair, re-pointing and surface cleaning to the front and side elevation.
Regeneration and Economic Development Cabinet Member for Knowsley, Cllr. Tony Brennan, made a statement.
Our continuous efforts to develop and enhance Prescot town centre and make it a desirable destination for visitors include the restoration of historic buildings through the Prescot High Streets Heritage Action Zone.
“The refurbishment at 7 Market Place looks fantastic and has significantly improved this area of the town center’s character. It goes well with the neighborhood’s cafes, pubs, and restaurants as well as the Shakespeare North Playhouse.
Anita Allen, building owner, commented
I’m rather pleased with how the project turned out. The building itself appears to have been given new life; it looks fantastic. Additionally, there is a positive increase in foot traffic inside the store.
Looking at the before and after pictures makes me happy with how it turned out because I could not have done it without the grant’s assistance.
Principal Contractor Rosslee Construction, along with subcontractors Halestone Restoration and Cass Associates for architectural services, restored 7 Market Place.
Regarding the Heritage Action Zone for Prescot High Street
The High Streets Heritage Action Zone project has chosen Prescot as one of the 68 high streets to receive benefits in 2020. Major funding for several important projects in Prescot town centre will come from Knowsley Council and Historic England as part of the £3.1 million heritage-led regeneration programme. Furthermore, the recently formed Prescot Cultural Consortium, headed by The Shakespeare North Playhouse, will present a number of cultural events in Prescot as part of the HSHAZ Cultural Programme Local Grants.
