Rangers has been busy finalising a few young deals this week, while the club’s focus has been on potential new recruits.
Following his breakthrough into the first team the previous season, teenage left-back Robbie Fraser received a new contract offer from Philippe Clement, keeping his word.
Fraser’s contract was signed in the weeks before to the signings of new academy contracts for Kerr Robertson, Darren McInally, and Kristian Webster, even though they haven’t yet made their team debuts.
Due to the terms of the long-term contract, Rangers have now committed yet another young player, making a statement about the club’s goals for the stopper.
Clement & Koppen talk Munn delight
Mason Munn, a teenage custodian from Northern Ireland, has been a major addition to the Rangers young team.
Big things are anticipated of the towering 18-year-old, who caught everyone’s attention in the Scottish Youth Cup Final last season and has been capped up to the U19 level for Northern Ireland.
The 6’3″ goalie has just been given a new four-year deal by the Rangers, indicating that they have high hopes for him.
The youngster subsequently inspired Rangers manager Philippe Clement to wax poetic on the team’s official website.
Mason’s commitment to the Rangers for the future is much appreciated, Clement remarked.
It is an acknowledgment of his growth at the Academy over the past few years, and as a lifelong Rangers supporter, he knows exactly what it takes to represent this team.
“There is still room for improvement from Mason in the years ahead and we look forward to his continued development as an individual.”
“Throughout his development in the Rangers Academy, Mason has demonstrated the essential qualities along with the innate talent that modern goalkeepers require to give himself the best chance to continue his already strong progression,” Nils Koppen continued.
“We’re happy he sees Rangers as his future home, and we think the coaching, facilities, and support staff here at the club will be ideal for him to grow and thrive.”
The length of the contract and Clement & Koppen’s remarks imply that the Rangers think highly of Mason Munn’s new contract.
Rangers don’t frequently offer young players such large contracts, so this one clearly indicates how the team views the goalie’s future development.
Although Jack Butland is still the unchallenged top scorer at Ibrox, there will be significant changes in the goalkeeping position this summer.
Robby McCrorie appears likely to depart in quest of playing time with the first team, while Jon McLaughlin has left at the end of his contract.
It looks like Mason Munn will be the backup keeper for the Scotland national team going forward, with Liam Kelly club moving forward.
With his talent, confidence, and bluenose qualities, Rangers anticipate great things from the Ulsterman in the future.
