Northern Ireland internationa’really excited’ after Rangers switch is confirmed

After her Southampton contract expired, Laura Rafferty, an international for Northern Ireland, finalised her move to Rangers.
The 28-year-old defender is the third player to join the Glasgow giants this summer after agreeing to a two-year contract at Ibrox.

Rafferty started her professional career ten years ago at Chelsea. She then went on loan to Oxford United for a portion of 2016.

Rafferty then enjoyed four years on the books of Brighton and Hove Albion, making the loan switch to Women’s Super League side, Bristol City, throughout the 2020/21 campaign.

The next season, she would go back to Southampton, the place where her youth career started, and as a regular member of the team, she would assist the Saints advance into the English football league’s second division.

Rafferty, who has played for Northern Ireland more than 20 times, stated that the “winning mentality” at Rangers played a significant role in agreeing to the move.

“I am quite happy. She told the Rangers’ official website, “I would put alongside what I do the values that this massive club shares.”

“I’ve been watching Rangers for a while; I see a lot of value in their style of play and winning mentality.

“Being a part of a winning mentality and winning things is one of my goals, and I know that the Rangers have that.

“I’m eager to get started, talking to people inside and outside the club.”

Jo Potter, the head coach for women, said, “I am very happy about Laura’s signing and her experience.”

“I believe you can see from her resume the kind of player she is and what she can bring to the team, and I was impressed with her and her self-handling from our very first conversation.”

“She will definitely add value to the team, and I can’t wait for her to join and get going,”

Managing Director of Women’s Football Donald Gillies continued, saying, “I am overjoyed that we can add a player of Laura’s calibre to the team.

She is a fully fledged international for her country, having captained the team in addition to her extremely high level of performance in the game.

“Laura will bring leadership abilities, experience, and yet another amazing dynamic to the group. In the upcoming seasons, we hope she can contribute to the team’s success.
