James Tavernier might be one of the stars to leave Ibrox, according to a Rangers great who believes it’s time for change.

Since moving to Glasgow in 2015, the club captain has been an essential member of the team and, while wearing blue, he has been the highest-scoring defender in the UK. With seasoned players like Borna Barisic and John Lundstram out of contract, he and manager Philippe Clement’s team are under increased scrutiny after another year without a Premiership title.

According to former midfielder Derek Ferguson, Ibrox is facing a $24 million question. He believes it might be time for a change, though, should a sizable bid be made for the Rangers captain.

When asked if the Rangers should accept a sizable offer should one come in, he asserted to Ibrox News, “There’s no two ways about it, absolutely.” Although he has been a great servant and has impressive stats, the support has occasionally criticised him for acting defensively.

“I simply feel like he’s been with the squad for a long time. You could say the team hasn’t performed well, and there are good reasons for that, but if you look at these numbers, which are what everyone always looks at, he’s been a good servant.

We wish him well and hope we can earn some money off of him if he manages to make a successful move. As things are with Tav, we do admire him, but if we can spare a few bucks for him, we should accept it and send him our best wishes. Nevertheless, there are situations when it’s simply time to move on.

“Philippe Clement should have the tools to go out and get them to bring them in. We need young, hungry players who want to prove themselves.” However, isn’t that the $24 million question? Can he expect to receive any financial support?

“Change is needed because there are far too many people who have stayed in one place for too long.”
