Ruben Selles, Royals manager, claimed our 1-1 tie with Lincoln City at the SCL Stadium on Saturday was one of the team’s greatest performances of the season.

After the visitors took the lead in the second half, Tyler Bindon scored in the 83rd minute to secure a crucial point. The point brings us up to 18th place, six points behind the drop zone with only four games remaining.

Here’s what Selles told the Reading Chronicle after the game.

I believe we were the greatest team on the pitch today. It was one of our best performances this season. We controlled actions in possession. Of course, there were a few mistakes in the build-up, but that is to be expected given how we play.

“We were aggressive, front-footed, and attempted to play our game. We fell behind in one action, but we demonstrated grit by scoring from the corner and creating some circumstances in their box.

“I believe we need to keep working and be more ruthless in finishing in the last third because we should be ahead before they score. Overall, it was a satisfactory performance.

“It is possible, and we are still developing that idea. We understand that if we were ruthless throughout the season, we would be in a different position. It is only a matter of time before we master this skill and progress to the next level. We create the environment, we are aggressive, and we have a distinct personality; we simply need to keep evolving it.
If we put the ball in the net, we have the opportunity to lead and not worry about the penalty. I do not want to go there. We did enough to win the game, but we need to capitalise on our opportunities.

We tell them, “We don’t know what action will make the difference, so be prepared.” We got a corner and have been working on several issues. Tyler, who is 19 years old, has to improve his performance as a centre-back.

“We can push him to the next level, and he’s learning so quickly. He created his own space, anticipated the goalkeeper’s movement, and scored. He even got another one from a free kick. We’re becoming better and better. I am proud of them.

“It was not only about him; it was about the team’s shape. We believed that with one six, we could dominate possession due to their pressing style and find the angles to reach Lewis Wing – and we did.

“For the number eight position, we have several profiles; we know Ben is probably the best in the eight position between lines, and he has worked extremely hard all season. I haven’t been fair to him, sometimes playing him as a winger when his optimum position is at eight.

“It was great to watch his game management, the way he plays, and how he’s improving in pressure and second balls. That was what we wanted to do it today and I think it worked well.
