Reading FC manager Ruben Selles stated that he is optimistic that the first-team players who are out of contract this summer will stay with the club.

Several first-team players, including Joel Periera, Femi Azeez, Clinton Mola, Jeriel Dorsett, Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, Sam Hutchinson, and Tivonge Rushesha, will see their contracts expire at the end of the season.

However, Selles is unconcerned about the situation and has stated that the club has the option to extend the contracts of several of those players.

“I’m not worried about the players out of contract that we want to stay,” he stated.

“I think we will be able to keep them all.

“We’ve been able to speak, particularly with those who have a year option in their contacts, which we may renew.

There is only one player who does not have that (option) and is in conversation to renew his contract.”

Selles is already making plans for the next campaign, but admitted that there is a limit on what work can be done while a takeover is still in progress.

He continued: “We can take the team into the next phase and I don’t think we need much more in terms of the squad. I just think we need support.

We cannot have that without good team support and the removal of some of the issues we faced this year.

“The next stage for us is going to be heavily dependent on the support we receive.

“I feel like I’m a better coach now than when we first started. When you first start a job, you never expect to experience this kind of season.

“We have created a framework for the club to grow in the next years, which is encouraging. I hope we can continue in the future.
