Reading veteran Phil Parkinson will return to Berkshire next season after leading Wrexham to consecutive promotions.
‘Parky’ played almost 400 games for the Royals in the 1990s and 2000s, achieving promotion twice, and has since had a long and successful management career in the EFL.
He will join ‘Hollywood’ Wrexham in 2021 after leading the Welsh club from the National League to League One in successive seasons while it was owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney.
Parkinson has guided Charlton Athletic, Bradford City, and Bolton Wanderers to the SCL Stadium, most notably leading fourth-tier Bradford to the FA Cup Quarter-Final against the Royals, where they lost 3-0 after a replay.
Reading has not encountered Wrexham since 2001, when they won 2-0 at home and away on their path to promotion to the current Championship.
Meanwhile, Stockport County secured their second promotion in three seasons and will play in League One next season.
Dave Challinor’s men were in the sixth division as recently as 2019 and last played in League One in 2010.
Stockport have never played in the SCL Stadium, and their last game against the Royals was at Elm Park in 1997.
Reading preserved their safety with a 2-2 draw at Barnsley on Saturday.
