The Rochdale Football Club is happy to declare that Ian Henderson has agreed to a new deal.
In his eighth full season at the Crown Oil Arena, our all-time top goal scorer has signed a new one-year contract.
A variety of testimonial events will be held over the forthcoming campaign to honour Ian for his many accomplishments, as well as his devotion and loyalty to the club. We will provide more information on these events as it becomes available, but for now, we can confirm that holders of 24/25 Season Cards will have priority when making reservations.
Henderson has the following message for supporters after reaching a new agreement:
“I’m thrilled to be staying at Dale for an additional year. I entered Spotland for the first time almost exactly one year ago.
“I’ve gone through highs and lows with the club over the years, and I’ve always tried to help and encourage it both on and off the pitch.
“The recent announcement of the Ogden Family’s ownership has revitalised Rochdale and ushered in an exciting New Era. I am excited to experience the enthusiasm and energy that this new ownership offers.
“We have a quality team under the direction of an innovative head coach and a committed staff. Being a member of this team and bringing something fresh to the table is something Sincerely, this excites me. My enthusiasm and determination are still unwavering, and I’m dedicated to teaching the next generation, imparting my experience, and fostering their development.
“2024–2025 will be my year of testimonials at this incredible club.” Having dedicated over half of my career to this place, I want to have left the fans with enduring memories and magical moments.
“We are dedicating this season to you, our devoted followers who have supported us through good times and bad. I’m honoured to don the Dale shirt for one more season, and I’ll do everything in my power to support the group. As we begin the new season, I am really excited to see everyone of you.

When Henderson joined the team in 2013, he quickly won over the hearts of Dale supporters. In addition to many other amazing moments, his goals in his first full season helped the team achieve promotion to League One.
He scored 126 goals in 343 games throughout his seven-year tenure, falling just four goals short of the record.
Following a two-year hiatus, he rejoined the team in the summer of 2022 and, in November of that same year, broke the record with his 130th goal to cemented his place in club legenddom. Last season, he increased his total with 41 appearances and 11 more goals.
He has made 434 appearances overall in all competitions, tallying 147 goals. In addition to being the club’s top goalscorer, he ranks second on our list of all-time appearances.
