Rotherham United boss provides updates on Cohen Bramall, Shane Ferguson

COHEN BRAMALL and Shane Ferguson are both in the fray for Rotherham United’s Easter programme against Preston North End and Millwall.

In the Millers’ final Championship match before the international break, at the AESSEAL New York Stadium against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town, wing-back Bramall was an unexpected addition to the bench.

It was anticipated he may miss the majority of the remaining campaign due to ligament injuries he sustained on January 20 against Middlesbrough.Ferguson, a player for Northern Ireland, had been out of action for the whole season following three surgeries to try and resolve a string of hernia problems. On February 17, he returned as a late substitution during the Championship home loss against Watford.

Early in March, he started two games against Coventry City and Sheffield Wednesday, but he has not played again.Head coach Leam Richardson commented on the pair, saying, “We’ve got a bit more training into them.” Deepdale is the team’s next stop on Friday. They haven’t been seen in a while.

“They are still in the’rehab’ phase that we placed them in because we require the quantity of patients. Hopefully, because they are both accessible, they can make a significant difference over the Easter weekend.”

After missing the game against the Terriers since early October due to a significant hamstring injury, Tyler Balckett made a comeback to the bench.

The defender served as a stand-in.

Adding, “We’ll have to wait and see,” Richardson said when asked if he could be involved over Easter. We’re attempting to maintain a large participant pool because our game turnaround time is short.

“We’ll wait and see on that one.”

Millers are only competing for dignity because their relegation will soon be official, maybe during the Easter schedule.

They haven’t won away from home this season, and their last road victory in the league dates back to November 2022.

Richardson responded, “Yes, absolutely,” to the idea that the frantic sequence should finish with a sliver of comfort for loyal followers. They would find it to be wonderful.

“To support their team, they spend a lot of money, traverse the entire nation, and sacrifice a great deal of their time.

“We are very conscious of the winless streak, which was a major concern when I took here. Starting on Friday would be ideal.”
