Long-serving Sam James, who leaves the Sale Sharks after nearly 250 games for the team, is one of the most noteworthy exits. The club shared the news on social media, saying that it comes with “a heavy heart” and wishing everyone leaving “good luck” in their future endeavours.

Following the confirmation of James, Manu Tuilagi, Cobus Wiese, Cameron Neild, and Agustin Creevy’s departures, the club has also confirmed the departures of forwards Tom Ellis, Cal Ford, and Ewan Murphy, as well as academy fly-half Finn Rogers and full-back Telusa Veainu.

Director of Rugby Alex Sanderson said of the news: “We’re saying goodbye to ten lads who, whether they’ve played a lot or not as much as they’d have liked, have contributed to what has been a massive squad effort this year.” Hr went on to insist that “no one has left on bad terms and that’s a testament to the blokes they are. They’re all friends and the door is always open for them to return. It’s never nice when friends move on, but it’s been done for the right reasons on both sides.
