A  Scotland national has been unveiled as Ayr United’s latest signing of the summer. Defender Mikey Devlin, 30, has put pen to paper on a year-long deal, with the option of a further year. He moves to Somerset Park after his contract at Livingston expired. The Motherwell-born defender joins the South Ayrshire side in the midst of a busy Premier Sports Cup campaign, with the Championship season just weeks away. Devlin started his senior career at Hamilton, before moving to Aberdeen in 2018 and spending four years in the north-east.

Before moving to Livingston in 2023, he had successful stints at Fleetwood Town and Hibs. However, he was unable to prevent them from being relegated to the Championship. Devin has three caps for Scotland. He made his debut for the national team in a Euro 2020 qualifier against Russia in October 2019, a match that the Scots lost 4-0 in Moscow during their first campaign as manager under Steve Clarke.

Devlin joins ahead of Ayr’s trip to Tannadice on Saturday to face Dundee United in their latest Premier Sports Cup Group B fixture. Ayr’s remaining group stage ties are away to Stenhousemuir on Tuesday, July 23 and at home to Buckie Thistle on Saturday, June 27. The Championship season begins with a trip to Devlin’s first club, Hamiklton Accies, on August 3. His second cap came in a 6-0 win against San Marino at Hampden four days later, and his last cap came as an injury substitute in the 2-1 win away to Cyprus the following month.
