Even though it appears increasingly likely that Sheffield United will be relegated back to the Championship, they still have six games left to play.

Although the players and management believe they can still win, it is very challenging to close a ten-point deficit this late in the season.

Many supporters now only want to keep their dignity intact and, ideally, avoid the bottom.

Sheffield United’s next game is at home against Burnley, who are currently ranked 19th. They would fall one point behind if the Blades defeated the Clarets, even though they still had a game in hand (against Manchester United).

Even if the Blades may be having difficulties on the pitch, it’s simple to forget that the team would receive more prize money if they managed to avoid placing last.

Sheffield United: Premier League prize money

According to the most recent information from Birmingham World’s Premier League annual report, every club will get at least £91.7 million from the “equal share” allocation of revenue from both local and international television contracts.

In addition, clubs will get “facility fees” for further UK television appearances as well as “merit payments” based on their league table final rankings.

As it stands, United will get £112.6 million for being in last place. Burnley, ranked 19th, is going to get £115.7 million. Furthermore, the person who secures the final relegation slot will receive a compensation of £118.8 million. Whichever side stays out of the bottom three will take home £121.9 million.
