It has been a hectic first day of July for Sheffield United. The (few) players that the Blades have under contract have reported back to training. Meanwhile, several faces have departed the club following the end of their contracts.
Daniel Jebbison rejects long-term deal with Sheffield United
Sky Sports revealed late last night that young forward Daniel Jebbison had turned down a new long-term deal with United because of the pending acquisition negotiations. The England youth international was once connected to Leeds United and Everton. In the event that Jebbison signs with an English team, Sheffield United will be paid.
In accordance with the English Football League’s (EFL) and Premier League’s rules and regulations, a club that signs an out-of-contract player under the age of 24 must reimburse the former club for the player’s training and development.
The deal will proceed to a tribunal, which will evaluate Jebbison’s fair market value, if the two clubs are unable to reach an agreement on the compensation price In addition, The Star reports that if the striker—who was born in Canada—moves on in the future, United might receive a sell-on percentage.
John Egan leaves Sheffield United
John Egan has formally departed from the club as well. After an exciting six years at Bramall Lane, the 31-year-old Ireland and former Blades captain posted a parting message on social media.
The seasoned defender has participated in 94% of the team’s league games in his prior five league seasons with United, prior to the most recent Premier League season, demonstrating his dependability. A defender’s record like this speaks even more highly of him because it demonstrates his football acumen in avoiding suspensions.
His regular presence on the pitch was essential, which made his absence during the season all the more apparent. And because the Blades lack any kind of leadership in the locker room, that absence will be felt come preseason.
Along with With Egan departing, the club will no longer have any players from the 2018–19 promotion-winning campaign, Chris Basham, George Baldock, and Oliver Norwood.
Keith Andrews leaves United’s coaching staff
It has now been verified that Thomas Frank intended to add Keith Andrews to Brentford’s staff, as had been previously stated.
When Chris Wilder rejoined Sheffield United in December, the 43-year-old Andrews was welcomed as a member of his staff. The former coach and player for the Republic of Ireland has now joined the Bees as their new set-piece coordinator.
Jamie Shackleton completes Blades medical
Positive news: Jamie Shackleton, a former Leeds United midfielder, has finished his physical with Sheffield United, according to Football Insider. The 24-year-old declined a new contract offer from Leeds in order to play for Chris Wilder’s Blades.
Because of his versatility, which was mentioned in a prior article, Shackleton may be the team’s choice to replace Ben Osborn, who was considered the utility player until his recent departure.
