Sheffield United announce key man return ahead of Chelsea clash

Sheffield United have got a significant injury boost ahead of this weekend’s home game against Chelsea, with striker Cameron Archer expected to return. The former Aston Villa player has been out of action for about two months due to a calf injury sustained during training.

The striker’s most recent game was a 3-1 triumph away at Luton, and his return to action will be welcomed by manager Chris Wilder following Thursday’s fighting defeat at Liverpool.

Cam Archer will be involved this weekend, which is excellent news,” Wilder added. “He’s been out for a while, so it’s fantastic to have him back among the group. We cannot afford to have these players out. You may have one or two ailments, but huge actors and players you’ve hired to accomplish a task… Cam has been a key signing for Sheffield United, and his absence for six weeks or so is a significant setback.

It’s fantastic to have someone who can get us up the pitch and score a goal. Hopefully, when he comes onto the pitch, he will have a beneficial impact. Getting Cameron back is excellent news for us, but we don’t want to get one and lose one.”

The “losing one” referred to Gus Hamer, who was substituted at Anfield on Thursday shortly after his header contributed to Conor Bradley’s own goal, which equalised United’s final 3-1 defeat. “He’s getting checked over today,” Wilder stated earlier today. “Hopefully, he’ll be fine.

The defeat at Anfield left the Blades 10 points adrift of safety – effectively 11 with their -52 goal difference – with eight games remaining in the season, beginning with Sunday’s clash with Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who also played last night and secured a dramatic 4-3 win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, with Cole Palmer scoring hat-trick.

When asked how he was keeping his players’ spirits and morale up, Wilder replied, “That’s our job. You can take something from the [Liverpool] game. The previous story and attitude suggested that we were only there to make up the numbers. You can comprehend it in terms of top vs. bottom and our season as it has progressed; I understand, and I am not criticising.

We have enough motivation among our group. You can use certain things from time to time, as we did in the past, but there is plenty of motivation. We weren’t in it to merely show up and roll over; we believed we could achieve something. There were several positive aspects from our perspective.
