An important restructuring coincides with the conclusion of the key man’s eight-year stint at Sheffield United.

The early departure of the man in charge of Sheffield United’s recruitment department is the first step in the department’s major reorganisation, which was disclosed this afternoon. Paul Mitchell, the head of recruitment, departed Bramall Lane with mutual consent.

Mitchell was a crucial ally of head coach Chris Wilder, who signed him when he was appointed in 2016. After consulting with United’s management, Mitchell decided to leave the team before his contract was scheduled to end in the summer for personal reasons.

The timing of the change suits both parties,” stated United CEO Stephen Bettis. “We are now working towards having a new team in place ahead of the summer transfer window.”

I would like to officially thank Mitch on behalf of the board and the club for his tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to the organisation. We wish him well as he is well-respected and well-known in the community and among the football community.

After signing a contract with Off The Pitch last month, which grants them access to “advanced analytics tools” from the Danish company and enables them to benchmark against other teams both domestically and globally, United is eager to change the way they approach recruiting. The relationship, according to United’s head of football administration, “opens a realm of opportunities for Sheffield United” and is “a step towards a more analytical approach in our business, commercial development, and player trading strategies.
