Sheffield United are interested in Tottenham Hotspur defender Ashley Phillips, who is currently on loan at Championship club Plymouth Argyle, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Blades sit at the bottom of the Premier League table with 16 points and are nearly certain to be relegated to the Championship.

Chris Wilder is already prepared for life in the second tier of English football, and the club is negotiating arrangements appropriately.

The Sheffield United manager wants to bolster his defence in order to enable the squad immediately return to the Championship.

And it has been alleged that the club has already considered signing Phillips from Tottenham.

Tottenham signed the teenage defender from Blackburn Rovers last summer and loaned him to Plymouth during the winter transfer window.

The 18-year-old is playing an important role in Plymouth’s attempt to avoid relegation from the Championship.

Phillips has proven his worth in the second division of English football, which has piqued the interest of Sheffield United manager Wilder.

Ange Postecoglou is expected to want to evaluate the teenager during preseason before deciding whether to loan him out again in the summer.
