As to the most recent report by Football Insider, Worrall is among the several players that Forest is eager to let go this summer. However, Nixon claims that the Sky Blues are keen to sign the defender during this transfer window on a loan basis.

Sheffield United, a rival in the Championship, is vying with them for the 27-year-old’s signature, though. The Blades have been strongly connected to the defender for some time now; according to TEAMtalk, they have begun negotiations with Forest regarding a potential transfer for Worrall.

The Premier League team has reportedly expressed a desire to acquire Worrall for as much as £4 million, despite the fact that he has fallen out of favour at the City Ground.

The player is reportedly eager to join the Blades, according to the source, but since Coventry has entered the race, things could change.

Reaction emerges to Coventry and Joe Worrall transfer talk

Last summer, Mark Robins brought in some important centre defence players, including Bobby Thomas, Joel Latibeaudiere, and Liam Kitching. This summer, Luis Binks also decided to make the transfer permanent.

Even though he deviates from the typical recruitment model of pre-peak players in terms of age, Neil Littlewood, a fan commentator for FLW’s Coventry, feels that his experience would be a benefit. He also has plenty of depth in the centre of defence.

“Joe Worrall goes a little bit against our normal recruitment policy, but given our young squad, I think we need a little experience,” he remarked.

“I wouldn’t refuse him entry. This is a level of experience for him. He clearly has Premier League experience and was promoted with Forest.

“I believe having him on the team would be beneficial. It is my belief that Robins enjoys having four centre backs in the lineup at once.

“And while he was there, Latibeaudiere pretended to be somewhat dishonest. I’m not sure if he is now considered a right-back cover.

“To be fair, Worrall is a superior player in my opinion, so if he joins the team, it will be beneficial for them in that regard.

“I do believe that somewhere in the team, experience is necessary. Whether at goalie, center-half, or midfield central

Liam Kelly is no longer with us, and Simon Moore is another seasoned player. Last season, we had Kyle McFadzean. That is all down the team’s spine.

“We do need that extra experience on the team because, even if Bobby Thomas and Ben Sheaf are excellent players, they are still rather young.

“Ideally it would be down the spine of the side, and in that respect, I think Worrall would be a clever signing.”

Given Littlewood’s motives, Worrall would be a valuable but significant addition for Coventry this summer. In addition to his extensive Championship experience, he played a pivotal role in Forest’s 2022 EFL season finale under Steve Cooper.

But his leadership and voice in the locker room are other intangibles that would be quite valuable to the Sky Blues. Worrall’s presence around the club would be wonderful, but they missed the play-offs last year and were so close to promotion in 2023.

If Worrall is going to return to the second division, he will understandably want a team that can contend with the top two in the Championship the following year, but Cov might be a decent substitute.

If Worrall is going to return to the Championship, he will understandably want a team that is going to challenge for the top two spots. However, if Worrall is looking for a regular football player at a team where he can make a significant impact, Cov might be a nice fit.
