Yan Valery, a 25-year-old defender for Southampton, is returning to his native England. According to a rumour from L’Équipe, the SCO Angers full-back is close to joining Sheffield Wednesday of the EFL Championship.
Valery participated in 37 games for Angers last season as they won promotion back to Ligue 1. But now that he’s returned the squad to the top division at their first request, he might be on his way out. Valery has a contract that runs until 2026, and Sheffield Wednesday is interested in him. According to L’Équipe, the Tunisian international is eager to return to England and has already negotiated terms with the Yorkshire club, which he disclosed in a recent interview with 90 Mins.
Angers and Sheffield Wednesday are currently in talks to try and come to an understanding. The player has a lot of admirers, including manager Danny Röhl, who worked with him at Southampton as Ralph Hasenhüttl’s assistant manager.
