Danny Rohl only joined Sheffield Wednesday in October 2023, but has already become one of the club’s best managers in recent years.

The German has now radically changed the team and led them to within a point of safety—claiming eleven wins in 27 games—after the Owls were relegated after just a few months.

Rohl is becoming more and more likely to keep the Yorkshire team from going down, and a victory over Swansea City this weekend at Hillsborough might push the team out of the relegation zone.

The 34-year-old’s supporters and teammates will be in awe of him if he can keep Sheffield Wednesday winning, but they now risk losing him less than a year after he signed.

Since switching to the Championship, Rohl’s influence has been felt, and come the summer, a number of teams should be interested in signing him. Sunderland is one team that is reportedly mulling a move for the coach.

If Sheffield Wednesday stays in the second division, they will be sure they can hold onto him because Carlton Palmer has now clarified what has to be done to make sure he stays.

Danny Rohl could ‘move onto pastures new’

Palmer stated, “I’ve said this several times, Danny Röhl has done a fantastic job after coming into Wednesday,” in an interview with Football League World. He’ll probably keep them going. He has inspired the team, the players are playing for him, and I have a strong sense that he will continue them. I had assumed that they were buried alive, and he did an outstanding job.

Röhl has already discussed what has to be done to advance the team, including improvements to Hillsborough, the training facility, and the locker room. I believe he and his backroom crew will be highly sought after if these measures are implemented but he isn’t provided with the resources to build the side the way he would like.

If they wish to keep him, the owner must support him, and I’ve already heard a few murmurs regarding that. Therefore, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Röhl continued Wednesday before moving on to greener pastures.

Will Dejphon Chansiri give Rohl what he wants?

Dejphon Chansiri’s financial difficulties have already been made abundantly evident; early in the season, the owner requested donations from supporters in order to settle his debts with HMRC.

Since 2017, the Owls have not paid seven figures for a player, and most lately, they have had to make due without lavishing money on any part of the team.

The club’s chances of success depend on Chansiri holding onto Rohl, and whether or not he will be prepared to part with his cash is another matter entirely.

Although Rohl enjoys a terrific rapport with both his squad and the supporters, the German player is very proud of the effort he does on the training pitch, and if the facilities fall short of his standards, he might consider leaving.

Wednesday will be quite frustrated since, if they can hang onto him, they might end up in the top half of the Championship table. However, it appears that Chansiri’s intransigence is the main cause of all of this.
