Rohl is receiving praise for everything he does for Sheffield Wednesday on the pitch.
After winning five of their previous seven games, he and his outstanding Owls squad have reduced the eight-point deficit that separated them from safety last month to just one point.
And some truly outstanding football has helped Sheffield Wednesday turn things around. They defeated Rotherham United and Plymouth Argyle handily, and they even went toe-to-toe with Leeds United despite the 2-0 loss.
However, Rohl is currently receiving recognition for several off-field achievements.
Three spots were left open in Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday starting lineup for players to register after the January transfer window.
Initially, there was talk of free agents perhaps signing; Nico Schulz was training with the Owls and Ravel Morrison was connected to Sheffield Wednesday, but neither would sign.
During his Thursday pre-Ipswich Town press conference, Rohl declared that although his pursuit of a free agent was officially done, players like Jeff Hendrick and Lee Gregory might still be registered for the last push.
Callum Paterson, who is soon to return to action, was another player Rohl had alluded to being registered.
Additionally, Rohl has received acclaim for how he handled this specific scenario. Journalist Stuart Rayner stated as much on the FootballTalk Podcast of the Yorkshire Post:
“Danny Rohl must have handled things very effectively, given that he has essentially benched a couple players. We are aware that some players are currently unable to register to play, but I believe he was rather astute in leaving a few spots unclaimed so that participants still have something to compete for.
All three players have had mixed seasons; Hendrick and Gregory especially with Rohl clearly not favouring the pair, and with both having injury issues too.
Paterson has featured 19 times in the Championship and remains an important player, though again, injuries has limited him in terms of appearances this time round.
All three though are very experienced players and in Paterson’s case, he’s a very versatile player which is always useful to a manager.
And now with the trio set to return, it’ll not only provide Rohl with some added depth and experience during this crucial time, but it’ll also add some competition.
The trio coming back, as Rayner suggests, will make everyone fight for a starting position. Paterson in particular may make some players, like Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama, nervous because they are currently the only true wide players available.
Saturday afternoon sees Sheffield Wednesday’s return to action against Ipswich Town.
