Sheffield Wednesday man taken off as Owls target remains unused

The Owls defender, whose contract at Hillsborough expires at the end of the month, started both of the Reggae Boyz World Cup qualifiers last week, first against Dominican Republic, which he won 1-0, and then against Dominica on Sunday.

Bernard was replaced at halftime with his team 2-0 up and looking comfortable, but despite scoring a third in the second half, they made hard work of it and eventually won 3-2. A win is a win, and it moves them to second place in Group E based on goal difference.

There has been no word as to why the 23-year-old was taken off, whether it was purely to rest him for the upcoming Copa America or something more worrying, however he’ll be hoping to be back in the starting XI in a couple of weeks when they take on Mexico in Texas.

Meanwhile, Iké Ugbo, Wednesday’s target, was left on the bench for another whole game by Jesse Marsch as Canada drew 0-0 with France in Bordeaux.

They face Argentina in their first Copa America match, and Ugbo will be eager to make an impression during a summer that could be vital for his future career.
Wednesday are interested in signing the Troyes striker ahead of the 2024/25 season, although they are anticipated to be one of several clubs vying for his services in the coming weeks.
