On the last day of the Championship season, Sheffield Wednesday defeated Sunderland 2-0 to guarantee their league standing for another year.

It was a dramatic climax to an equally dramatic but miraculous season under Danny Rohl.

The Owls were winless after the 13 games of the season, becoming the first-ever Championship side to beat the drop after going winless for so long at the start of a campaign.

And quickly, attentions are turning towards the summer and the 2024/25 season.

Sheffield Wednesday have a horde of first-team players out of contract in the summer and several others leaving when their loan deals expire.

But it looks like the Owls already have their first summer signing in their sights; loan star James Beadle.

Sheffield Wednesday plotting

James Beadle reunion

Early this week, reports surfaced indicating Brighton’s goalkeeping situation may be problematic.

Since joining  in January, Beadle has played in 18 Championship games and has kept eight clean sheets.

However, The Athletic reported that Brighton might try to promote Carl Rushworth, a fellow Brighton star who played this season on loan at Swansea City and won their Player of the Season award, instead.

However, Wednesday and Swansea are both eager to resign their respective loan goalkeepers this summer, according to information that Alan Nixon just disclosed on his Patreon.

He wrote: “This week, keepers Carl Rushworth and James Beadle will be facing Brighton, as Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea play.”

“The Swans and Owls are eager to have both of the loanees for another season because they have both been outstanding in the Championship.”

The one thing Sheffield Wednesday need to be careful of

It would be very logical for Sheffield Wednesday to have Beadle back.

Because of his consistently strong and self-assured performances, which were crucial in helping them win, he developed a strong fan base.

Naturally, Brighton will want Beadle to be playing at the best level possible the following season, and a complete Championship campaign appears to be the most likely scenario.

However, the Seagulls could prefer that Beadle compete at the highest level of the division.

The Owls’ recent performance suggests they will be competitive if Rohl is able to acquire the players he wants this summer.

However, those moves might not occur until late summer, by which time Brighton will have decided where to send Beadle.

It appears like Sheffield Wednesday may need to exercise caution when it comes to other Championship teams that may pose a challenge before they sign any players this summer in order to acquire Beadle.

However, Beadle gave off the impression that he had a great time at S6, and if given the chance, he would very well go back to Wednesday very soon.
