Barry Bannan, the captain of Sheffield Wednesday, will not now serve a two-game suspension.

After receiving his ninth yellow card of the season during the Owls’ victory over Birmingham City last month, the team captain has been balancing his suspension for the past month. Should he receive one more yellow card by game 37, he would be suspended for two games.

Wednesday’s 2-0 loss to Leeds United at Hillsborough on Friday night may not have been the outcome they were hoping for, but one bright spot from the event was that Bannan did not receive a caution, meaning he will be able to play out the remaining nine games of the season.

The team captain has been weighing his ban for the past month following his ninth yellow card of the year during the Owls’ victory over Birmingham City last month. He would be suspended for two games if he was to acquire one more yellow card by game 37.

They may not have had the desired result from Wednesday’s 2-0 loss to Leeds United at Hillsborough on Friday night, but there was one positive from the encounter: Bannan did not earn a caution, therefore he will be able to play out the season’s remaining nine games.

Regarding his booking, Röhl remarked, “It was an emotional thing.” “It was incredibly frustrating when you had the incident before halftime. After that, there was a duel that, in my opinion, was more of an attack than a foul, but it may have been a foul since I was upset.

“Yet I’ll accept the yellow; Barry Bannan’s lack of one today was more significant.” It indicates that he has crossed the line and won’t face a two-game suspension. That was a crucial point, so I’ll give him the yellow card.

The only other Owls player who was in danger of serving a two-game suspension was Di’Shon Bernard, but he was assured before last night’s game that his worries about it would be resolved.

Wednesday will be hoping that teams elsewhere today can do them a favour as they eye another opportunity to do so next weekend. Wednesday’s defeat to Leeds meant that they missed their chance to move up out of the bottom three.
