Seven players have been handed new contracts, but several of them have played their final games for Wednesday. There was always going to be a significant change for the team as several contracts came to an end.

Playoff heroes George Byers, Lee Gregory, and Reece James are among those departing the team as they seek out new opportunities for their careers. For Gregory, that has already been determined as he has committed to joining Mansfield Town.

“Tyreeq Bakinson, Ciaran Brennan, George Byers, Juan Delgado, Lee Gregory, and Reece James are released following the expiration of their current contracts,” the club said in a statement. The Owls would like to express its gratitude to each and every player that is leaving for their services and wish them the best in the future.

In addition to the options already under contract, Wednesday’s decision to exercise the options on Callum Paterson and Marvin Johnson has given them a few more options for the upcoming season. However, Danny Röhl still has work to do as he attempts to assemble a new team as soon as possible in anticipation of a challenging 2024–2025 campaign.
