According to Gloucestershire Live, Ryan Bowman, a free agent, has agreed to a one-year contract with Cheltenham Town.
In preparation for the upcoming season, Cheltenham Town is hoping to bolster their forward line.
On the penultimate day of the season, the club’s fate of being demoted to the fourth division was confirmed.
Yesterday, there were rumours that the team was getting close to signing a striker. The new player, who remained anonymous, had exercised with the team yesterday and had already finished his medical, according to Jon Palmer.
It has already been established that name is Bowman. The 32-year-old made 37 appearances in League One last season, scoring his lone goal against Cheltenham Town on the first day of play.
He has a good history, having scored 27 goals in two seasons for Exeter City in League Two and 10 goals in the League One during the 2021–2022 season.
According to Gloucestershire Live, he and Cheltenham Town have reached a one-year contract agreement, and an announcement about the deal could come soon.
Bowman had trouble being reliable last season.
When he was in the squad towards the end of the season, he hardly featured at all and spent a good few weeks not even on the bench. The seasoned striker made a wise decision to return to League Two, but it is unclear if he can continue to contribute goals at this level as he approaches the end of his career.
Either way, his experience will be an added bonus to the dressing room but Flynn’s side could do with some guaranteed firepower.
The season ahead
Cheltenham Town punched above their weight in many ways over recent years.
The club did well to sustain themselves in League One, but now they must refocus and rebuild.
The ultimate aim for them will be to make a third tier return, but for now they have to focus on stabilising and laying the foundation to go and kick on in the future.
It’s hard to predict which way their season will go, but fans won’t have to wait long to find out with their opening fixture against Newport County just over two weeks away.
