Regarding Marko Marosi’s fitness, Shrewsbury Town’s head coach Paul Hurst says they are working with the “unknown.”

The goalie was forced to miss both the match against Lincoln and the 2-0 loss to Blackpool on Saturday because of a nerve issue.

Hurst also appeared unconfident when asked if the Town number one would be able to play in this weekend’s crucial match against Port Vale.

“No, not really, in truth,” said Hurst when asked if Marko was close to being fit for Saturday’s game.

“He performed better on Friday than he did on Thursday, but we are truly in the dark and I don’t think he was ever really taken into consideration.

“To be honest, it is a terrible feeling because, in my experience, most injuries can be diagnosed with a reasonable timeframe, and you can usually trust that the physiotherapist won’t err on that front.

On the other hand, with this one, he might visit on Monday and, rather than being healed, he might even say, “I am fine.” Or perhaps he has been having difficulties for the past two weeks. Therefore, even though I don’t think there is anything extremely excessive that we can do, we are hoping that won’t be the case and will try our best.

Marosi signed a three-year contract in June 2021 and has played 123 league games for Salop since coming from Coventry.

The club has the option to extend the contract by one more year, but it expires at the end of this current campaign.

He has been a consistent member of the Shrewsbury squad, but Harry Burgoyne has stepped in for him when needed. Hurst acknowledged the steady work he has done.

“We will work to get him (Marois) fit,” he stated. “However, the goalkeeping position did not cause us to lose the game.” Therefore, I also don’t want to come across as being unkind to Harry. Simply put, I believe that Marko would be in high demand given his experience and current career.
