The professional conditions of Michael Vaughan, the son of the former captain of England, have been signed by Somerset. Archie Vaughan, an off-spinner and top-order hitter, has been a member of Taunton’s academy since 2020.
The 18-year-old’s contract will go into effect on November 1 and last through the end of 2026. Although the adolescent hasn’t played in the Somerset first team yet, he hopes to emulate his father, who participated in 82 Test matches and 86 one-day internationals.
The Millfield student, who represents Taunton St Andrews in club cricket, enrolled in the Somerset Academy in 2020 and debuted in the Second XI in 2022.
Archie said on the club’s website, “It’s something that I’ve worked really hard for and that I’ve strived for since I was a kid, so to get the opportunity for a club where I’ve really enjoyed myself over the last few years is an honour.”
“I will be looking to gain as much experience as I can and learn as much as I can from the more experienced players in the dressing room.”
Yorkshire was the team he played for throughout his county career, and he captained England from 2003 to 2008, helping them to a historic Ashes victory in 2005.
