Yesterday afternoon, a massive fire that started close to a football stadium is still being contained by firefighters.

Several industrial units in Marine Parade caught fire, resulting in a substantial plume of smoke filling the area surrounding St Mary’s Stadium. At 1:05 p.m., emergency services hurried to the scene, but throughout the day, more and more crews were sent to the region.
At 5:40 p.m., over a hundred firefighters were fighting to put out the fire. Earlier, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service stated that workers will need to put in long hours to put out the fire and clear the smoke. Residents are still advised to stay away from the area, they said.

“Our crews remain at the fire that has affected industrial units near Southampton’s St Mary’s football stadium,” the force stated. Because there is still a lot of smoke in the vicinity, residents are recommended to keep their doors and windows closed.” The yesterday’s Southampton FC vs. Preston North End match has been postponed.
