Your Echo is pleading with Ron Martin, the chairman of the Blues, to support an amended proposal to rescue the team after a contract was rejected by Southend Council on the grounds that it puts “public money at risk” in an open letter.

We are requesting support and assistance from supporters, activists, parliamentary candidates, and businesspeople in order to move an agreement through today.

Greetings, Ron

It hasn’t been enjoyable to watch Southend United’s fortunes for far too long.

Our cherished club has seen several crises come and gone, and what once brought us immense delight is now accompanied by what seems like never-ending misery.

It won’t take much to understand the significance of the club to so many diverse individuals.

It is deeply ingrained in our city and community, and many of us have family traditions that date back many generations: supporting the Shrimpers.

But it’s up to you to take the chance as all of that is at stake right now.

We have reached the lowest point in our 118-year history as a result of back-to-back relegations, participation in the National League, late staff payments, transfer embargoes, a points punishment, and innumerable winding-up applications.

The primary concern, though, is that we still believe there is no future for the football team and that there is a limited amount of time left.

We will be transparent in our demands as well, as the Southend City Council has been.

Please be open to the updated plans that are coming your way so that you won’t be recognised as the one who killed the club.

The majority of the harm that has been done under your ownership cannot be undone, but there is still time to close it properly.

To make it happen, prioritise the needs of others before your own financial needs and demonstrate your love for the club by making an effort to emphasise all along.

Give the consortium the opportunity to take up the mantle and begin to appreciate and feel proud of being Southend United supporters once more.

To put it plainly, you do not gain anything from the club’s demise, and neither do any others.
