Carlisle United Will Face World Club In A Reserve Friendly

Carlisle United will face Rangers in a reserve friendly next week, the Glasgow club has announced.

The Blues plan to travel north of the border next Monday to give some of their periphery players game action.

They will compete against Rangers’ B Team at the Ibrox club’s training facility in Auchenhowie.

Blues manager Paul Simpson told the News & Star yesterday that United was waiting for confirmation on the bounce game.

The Gers have now declared that the match will be played on Monday afternoon.

“Rangers B will face Carlisle United’s first team on Monday afternoon,” the Scottish Premiership club stated.

“The young Gers have faced a number of seasoned teams this season, and the visit from the English outfit is an interesting addition to the B Team’s fixture schedule.

“David McCallum’s side won their previous match 2-0 against Bolton Wanderers B in Lancashire earlier this week.

“Gers B have also faced Manchester United and Manchester City this season, among others, including a difficult test against OH Leuven’s main side.

“The match will be played at the Rangers Training Centre, presented by Park’s Motor Group, with a 2.00pm kick-off.”

Simpson is likely to utilize the game to give outings to players who haven’t had much first-team experience recently.

Jayden Harris, Dylan McGeouch, Seán Grehan, and Ukrainian attacker Anton Dudik are all possible starters, with youth squad players also in the running.

Simpson, United’s manager, commented about the problem of managing a roster that currently includes a number of out-of-favour players.

“You’ve just got to keep them all up to speed,” he went on to say. “They all understand they can’t all play and there’s a disappointment when they’re not playing, but there has to be a professionalism to keep going.”
