After the Seattle Seahawks signed Mike Macdonald as head coach, the Washington Commanders are the only NFL team without a head coach. Ben Johnson, the longtime favorite, notified the organization on Tuesday that he chose to stay as Detroit Lions offensive coordinator.

What’s next for Commanders?

Bets on the team’s future head coach were on Sportsbetting.ag. They favor Mike Vrabel.

They listed these odds:

Mike Vrabel 2/1

Dan Quinn 3/1

Aaron Glenn On 5/1

Bill Belichick On 6/1

Frank Smith On 7/1

Pete Carroll 9/1

Eric Bieniemy 20/1

We don’t know if Vrabel has interviewed for the job, but his popularity is intriguing.

The Commanders interviewed Bobby Slowik, Raheem Morris, Ben Johnson, Dan Quinn, Macdonald, Aaron Glenn, Anthony Weaver, and Eric Bieniemy. All applicants were scheduled for two interviews. McDonald joined the Seahawks, Johnson stayed with the Lions, Morris joined the Falcons, and Slowik stayed with the Texans. Only Quinn, Glenn, Weaver, and Bieniemy remain.

Will the Commanders hire one of the four coaches they’ve interviewed twice or a new one?

Mike Vrabel, Bill Belichick, and Pete Carroll remain. Some teams may go younger, but Belichick and Carroll are the most accomplished.

In six seasons as Titans head coach, Vrabel, 48, has made the playoffs three times and won Coach of the Year in 2021. His unemployment seems absurd. Perhaps the Commanders will alter that.
