Josh Giddey Won’t Face Charges In Livvy Cook Scandal

Regarding allegations that he had a sex relationship with a juvenile residing in California, Josh Giddey will not be prosecuted. “We have concluded our investigation into information that was spreading on social media regarding Josh Giddey after a comprehensive and exhaustive study. The Newport Beach Police Department released a statement saying, “Our detectives have examined all of the material and were unable to corroborate any criminal activity related to Mr. Giddey.” An NBA spokeswoman said that the league is still looking into the matter.

In November 2023, the NBA and California police both opened investigations on the allegations made against Giddey. But soon after, word spread that Livvy Cook, the purported juvenile Giddey had slept with, was refusing to assist the authorities. Very little information regarding the case has been made public since early December, following the initial wave of headlines about the incident, which included claims that Cook was as young as 15 at the time. Giddey has kept playing for the Thunder all during the probe. This season, he is averaging 11.6/6.1/4.6 per game.

In 2021, Giddey—who was born in 2002—joined the NBA. Instead of enrolling in US colleges, he played professional basketball in his home country of Australia for a season before filing for the draft. Adding 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.4 assists in his debut season, he was one of the Thunder’s youthful core players. Giddey only got better in his sophomore year. With Giddey’s 16.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists in the 2022–2023 campaign, the Thunder qualified for the postseason for the first time since the COVID Bubble.

In the meantime, Giddey was becoming more and more well-known worldwide. In 2020, Giddey made his senior national team debut for Australia after competing at the junior level. He almost missed being included in the Australian Olympic team, which would go on to earn a bronze in 2020. Giddey would nevertheless join the 2023 FIBA World Cup lineup and contribute 19.4 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists per game. Australia qualified for the Olympics despite finishing in tenth place.
