Nets Add Top Players In Deal With Raptors

The Brooklyn Nets have reached an agreement with the Toronto Raptors to acquire guard Dennis Schroder and forward Thaddeus Young, the organizations announced Thursday. After obtaining Dinwiddie, the Raptors waived him.

Nets obtain Dennis Schroder: Thaddeus Young

Raptors obtain: Spencer Dinwiddie.

What does the move imply for the Nets? Brooklyn parted ways with Dinwiddie, who apparently became dissatisfied with his role on the team. Schroder, a 30-year-old guard from Germany, was in his debut season with the Raptors and averaged 13.7 points, 6.1 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in 51 games. Both Schroder and Young add seasoned expertise to Brooklyn (20-30) as it seeks to remain in the Play-In race.

What the deal means for the Raptors: Dinwiddie has battled to find a rhythm this season, averaging 12.6 points and 6.0 assists. After being acquired by the Nets last season, he averaged 16.5 points and 9.1 assists in the final 26 games. Dinwiddie, who was waived, may be eligible to join a playoff team before the March 1 postseason eligibility waiver deadline.
