Newcastle United are planning a deadline day transfer announcement

Newcastle United will announce the signing of Manchester City midfielder Alfie Harrison on deadline day.

The Magpies agreed on an undisclosed cost for the 18-year-old last week, and he has since arrived on Tyneside to have a medical and finalize the paperwork. It is understood Harrison has signed a long-term contract after being given a clear path to the first team.

Newcastle have yet to officially announce Harrison’s arrival, but confirmation should arrive before the end of the day. The January transfer window closes at 11 p.m. tonight.

Harrison, who joined Manchester City’s academy at the age of nine, has scored eight goals in eight Premier League under-18 games and earned his under-21 debut in December.

He has also trained alongside Pep Guardiola’s first team. Harrison has been compared to Erling Haaland because to “their visual resemblance and has recorded impressive goal and assist statistics for their age-group teams.”

According to HITC, Harrison had interest from West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton & Hove Albion, Celtic, Valencia, Borussia Dortmund, and Nice before deciding to join to St James’ Park.

Newcastle’s head of youth recruitment, Paul Midgley, who arrived from Manchester City in 2022, is believed to have played a crucial role in the deal, with discussions centered on Harrison’s clear path to first-team football.

Indeed, Eddie Howe has shown a willingness to give young players first-team opportunity, with 17-year-old Lewis Miley making 18 appearances this season. Meanwhile, Alex Murphy, Ben Parkinson, Michael Ndiweni, and Amadou Diallo have sat on the bench.
