“Anyone who has experienced these injuries understands how tough they can be to manage. The medical team has steadily improved his condition. It’s a slow process to get him to the point where his Achilles tendon can endure the demands of Premier League play.
“Until he returns, there is no guarantee that he will return. So fingers crossed that he will. He’s nearing the end of his rehabilitation, working hard and doing well. Will he play in February? “I hope so, yes.”
Howe is down to the bare bones in the middle of the park, with Bruno Guimaraes balancing a two-game suspension. Sean Longstaff and Lewis Miley have also started with the Brazilian in Newcastle’s previous five matches across all competitions.
