Besiktas reportedly wanted Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles to strengthen their defense.

This transfer window, Newcastle United no longer fear losing Jamaal Lascelles to Besiktas after Nottingham Forest let Joe Worrall join.

After Eric Bailly’s premature departure, the Turkish giants sought a central defender this winter. An Ivorian suspension after a 3-1 loss to Fenerbahce ended his contract in December.

Because Nottingham Forest let Joe Worrall join Besiktas, Newcastle United no longer fear losing Jamaal Lascelles this transfer window.

This winter, the Turkish giants sought a central defender to replace Eric Bailly, who left early. After a 3-1 loss against Fenerbahce, the Ivorian was suspended and released in December.

Despite being club captain and playing a key part this season due to injuries, Lascelles was reportedly on Besiktas’ radar. The Turkish club said Worrall will join them on loan till the end of the season, allaying any anxieties.

Chronicle Live says Lascelles wanted to stay on Tyneside despite reports linking him away. With their present players staying until the summer, the Magpies can focus on the balance of the season with the 30-year-old’s confirmation.

In response to Lascelles’ future at St James’ Park, manager Eddie Howe said last month: “Jamaal is a key part of our future, but I need to know his contract position. I’m not sure he’s out of contract after the season.”
