Robert Murray of Fansided reports that the Pirates are interested in free agency right-hander Noah Syndergaard.
We discovered on Tuesday that free agency pitcher Noah Syndergaard worked out for interested clubs.
It appears the Pittsburgh Pirates are interested in the former All-Star.
Fansided’s Robert Murray says:
Syndergaard, 31, has a 6.50 ERA in 88.2 innings with the Dodgers and Guardians last season. The Pittsburgh Pirates and others are interested in a one-year, prove-it deal for him, sources say.
Murray’s appraisal seems reasonable given his troubles last season. That seems financially feasible for the Pirates. Pittsburgh may not be a World Series contender in 2024, but they are clearly competitive. They signed Martin Perez and traded for Marco Gonzales to reconstitute their starting rotation. Aroldis Chapman joined the bullpen lately.
Recently, Syndergaard’s fame and output have declined. Once a top young pitcher, he debuted with the Mets in 2015 and made the All-Star team in 2016. After New York in 2021, he played for the Angels, Phillies, Dodgers, and Guardians.
His lifetime record is 59-47, 3.71 ERA. Injuries have prevented him from throwing 150 innings since 2019. He’s 31 and should have more left, so it will be fascinating to watch how his market grows.
Under three weeks till spring training.
