Aston Villa vs Newcastle United: The Premier League has confirmed the match officials for Tuesday’s game at Villa Park.
Officials for Newcastle United’s Premier League encounter against Aston Villa on Tuesday (8:15pm kick-off) have been confirmed.
The match at Villa Park will be refereed by John Brooks. Brooks’ last match as a referee for Newcastle was a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at St James’ Park in August.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was sent off for a tackle on Alexander Isak after Anthony Gordon put Newcastle ahead. Despite being reduced to ten men, Jurgen Klopp’s team produced a late comeback, with Darwin Nunez scoring twice to seal a 2-1 victory.
Regarding Brooks’ decision to send Van Dijk off, Klopp stated, “There is no active contact from Virgil van Dijk.” He was simply going for the ball and made contact on his way there.”For this contact, getting three games, oh my God, unbelievable.”
Van Dijk’s reaction to Brooks’ red card resulted in a further one-match suspension and a £100,000 fine after admitting to acting improperly and using abusive and disrespectful language towards the match officials.
Brooks is hoping for less drama this time around at Villa Park, where he will be accompanied by Lee Betts and Akil Howson. Michael Salisbury will serve as the fourth official, with Andy Madley as the video assistant referee, aided by Harry Lennard.
Newcastle enters the contest having lost their last four Premier League games and having not won an away game in the top tier since September. This season, Aston Villa has 28 points out of a possible 30 at home, one fewer than The Magpies have overall.
