Yakup Cinar claims Rangers’ Ridvan Yilmaz approached Galatasaray for £1.7 million in January.
On Monday (5 February), the Yeni Acik journalist stated on YouTube that the 22-year-old requested almost quadruple his Ibrox salary.
Rangers sought £4.3m for Yilmaz’s permanent transfer but were open to a loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.
Rangers profit from botched transfer
Yilmaz has thrived under Philippe Clement and looks at comfortable at Ibrox, despite recent transfer rumors.
The player scored against Hibernian and assisted against Kilmarnock during the transfer window, demonstrating his importance to the Gers. He has clean sheets in his last three games.
Yilmaz is the likely left-back even with Borna Barisic, and after Fluminense’s failed signing of Jefte last month, he is more vital than before.
Clement stated his wish for a new full-back. Yilmaz was unmatched in his professionalism during the skepticism and rumors, even with that news in the press.
Without a suitable replacement for their great left-back, Rangers would have been in a difficult situation. Dujon Sterling is the sole cover, but he’s playing better in midfield.
The aborted Galatasaray transfer of the Turkish defender appears to be benefiting Ibrox. Clement’s decision on a new full-back in the summer and if Jefte will be considered again will be intriguing.
Clement may have made millions for the Rangers given Sam Lammers’ recent efforts.
