On January 23, the Miami Heat acquired Terry Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets, creating a midseason splash. Rozier won’t make his Heat debut until January 25 against his previous team, the Boston Celtics. However, hours after the trade was finalized, the Heat’s X account tweeted a video of Rozier’s arrival in Miami.

When questioned about his sentiments on the deal, Rozier was frank. “I don’t even know what to say,” Rozier admitted. “It hasn’t yet hit me, but this is home for me. I feel good. I’m ready to start…I’m happy to be a member of the Heat culture. Let’s get it. Let’s see what all the fuss is about.

In 30 games with the Hornets in 2023-24, Rozier averages 23.6 points while shooting 45.9% from the field and 35.8% from three. Rozier will have additional scoring options in Miami, including Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, and Bam Adebayo, among others. However, his skills as a three-point shooter may offer another dimension.

After the Heat completed the Terry Rozier deal, some of Rozier’s tweets from his youth surfaced, revealing that he was a Heat fan. Two tweets revealed that Rozier was a Heat fan during the 2010-11 season, when LeBron James and Dwyane Wade played together.

Terry Rozier’s Previous Heat Tweets Resurface

More particular, Rozier was a fan of Heat legend Dwyane Wade, whom he expressed a desire to meet in a 2013 tweet.

During Wade’s farewell tour in 2019, Rozier mentioned how much he looked up to Wade growing up.

“I think it’s just unique given how much I follow him, how much inspiration he’s given me on the basketball side,” Rozier told Celtics.com’s Taylor Snow. “He revolutionized the game for me. Then I get to see this one last dance, and tonight is the final game versus the Celtics.”

Rozier explained how he would mold his game after Wade, which wasn’t common where he grew up.

“Just how fast he was, you know, calling him ‘The Young Flash,’ and how competitive he was,” Rozier added. “The things he was doing were so compelling that you couldn’t ignore them. Everyone in Ohio adored LeBron, and I was no exception. I was simply a diehard D-Wade admirer because I relate myself more to him than anyone else.”

The Hornets will not waive Kyle Lowry, according to reports.

Following the Terry Rozier deal, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski stated that Kyle Lowry may remain with the Hornets.

“The Hornets have no immediate plans to work on a buyout with Lowry and are expected to see if they can work another trade for him before the February 8 deadline, sources tell ESPN,” Wojnarowski reported on January 23 via his X account.

A lot might change between now and the start of the buyout season. Charlotte is 10-31 and is all but out of the playoffs. On paper, they don’t see much use in Lowry, who is 37 years old. He doesn’t appear to be staying in Charlotte for long, any way.
