Villa’s Leon Bailey is set to sign a long-term contract.

Unai Emery’s star winger has averaged a Premier League goal or assist per 78 minutes this season.

At a weekend interview with Jamaican channel Elite Sports TV, the player’s agent and stepfather Craig Butler said a new deal was “good to go” after talks began last month.

After joining Villa from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 for £25million, Bailey has scored 10 goals in all competitions this season. He had only six goals in two years before.

The 26-year-old, who struggled with injury and inconsistency in his first two seasons, was even considered for a move last summer but has since become an important part of Emery’s team.

Villa are eager to ensure his future as his contract expires next season.

Bailey, along with Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins, will sign new contracts this season as Emery looks to keep his core of players.

Villa, fourth in the Premier League, host Chelsea in an FA Cup fourth-round rematch on Wednesday.
