Trae Young scored 32 points and 15 assists as the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Phoenix Suns 129-120 on Friday night.
Young, who was not chosen for the next All-Star game, went 7 for 11 from three points and had two steals. He came into the game averaging 27 points and 10.9 assists.
Bogdan Bogdanovic came off the bench, hitting four of seven long-range shots and finishing with 23 points for Atlanta, which has won three straight games. Dejounte Murray scored 22 points, while Jalen Johnson had 16.
Plenty of fans wore Kevin Durant shirts during the Phoenix Suns’ only visit to Atlanta. He led the Suns with 35 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. Devin Booker tallied 24 points.
But Young was the game’s standout, accounting for the majority of the Hawks’ 17 3-pointers and, at one point, nailing a shot from behind the backboard. That basket, however, did not count because it occurred after the whistle.
The Suns came into the game having won nine of their previous 11 games, with all but three of those being road games.
The Hawks embarked on an 11-0 run at the close of the third quarter and the start of the fourth, with five players scoring throughout the stretch. Atlanta led 104-95 after three quarters.
Atlanta’s Saddiq Bey hurt his ankle late in the first half and did not return in the second. He finished with two points on 1-for-7 shooting.
Hawks forward De’Andre Hunter (knee) did not play after returning from a 19-game absence against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night. He’s likely to play against the Warriors on Saturday.
